Ox and Cow

To see in a dream that one has mounted a black ox signifies that one shall be appointed to an office by the government and shall derive benefit from it. To mount a yellow ox signifies illness; to see an ox gore one with its horns and strike one so that one is thrown from the place signifies that one shall be dismissed from one’s occupation; to see it strike only with its horn signifies that harm shall befall one of one’s relatives; to see ox meat signifies the property of a scholar, while its hide signifies the property of that scholar’s relatives.

According to Jābir al-Maghribī: to see a working ox slaughtered and its flesh cut into pieces signifies that a scholar in that place shall be killed and his property distributed; if the ox is not a draught ox, then another man in that place shall be killed and his property distributed; to see oneself slaughtering an ox and eating its flesh signifies that its owner shall be killed and his property taken from him.

To see in a dream a non-working ox slaughtered and eaten signifies that a notable person in that place shall die; to see many male and female cattle entering one place signifies that an epidemic shall break out there that year; if the oxen are plump and fat, it signifies abundance and prosperity; to see oneself ploughing a field with an ox signifies that a plentiful harvest shall be obtained.

Whoever sees in a dream that he is buying the meat of a fat cow shall marry a wealthy woman. Whoever sees that he is milking a cow but does not drink its milk shall accumulate property and not spend it. Whoever sees in a dream an ox speaking with him shall become wealthy to an extent that will astonish everyone. Whoever sees cattle coming toward him shall receive much good from that year. To see the cattle turn their backs on him and depart signifies that that year shall not be auspicious.

To see in a dream that one is ploughing a field with an ox signifies that many blessings shall be attained. According to Ismāʿīl al-Aḥsāʾī: whoever sees in his dream that he is dealing with an ox shall become the enemy of a good man.

According to Ibn Sīrīn: whoever sees in his dream a fat ox belonging to him shall have a year of prosperity and cheapness; if it is not known whose ox it is, it signifies that the people of that place shall have a prosperous year. If the ox is lean, it signifies the contrary.

To see ox meat in a dream signifies property, and to see cattle hide signifies benefiting from that property. Whoever sees that he is milking a cow and drinking its milk: if he is a servant, it signifies that he shall leave his employment; if he is poor, he shall become wealthy; and if he is wealthy, his money shall increase.

According to Jābir al-Maghribī: whoever sees himself fall from the back of cattle shall suffer hardship that year. To see cattle bite one or strike one with their horns signifies that one’s wife shall betray the dreamer.

According to al-Wāʿiẓ: to see cattle in a dream signifies lawful property. Fat cattle signify a wealthy spouse; lean cattle, a poor spouse; variegated cattle, a pious woman; a milk-giving cow, a person possessed of goodness and compassion; and a horned cow, an immoral spouse.

To see in a dream that one wishes to milk a cow, but that the animal prevents this by defending itself with its horns, signifies that the dreamer’s wife or husband shall be disobedient. To see oneself milking someone else’s cow, while the cow becomes fierce in order to prevent it, signifies that one’s spouse shall commit treachery.

According to al-Sālimī: whoever sees in his dream a cow enter his house shall receive good and benefit from a statesman. Whoever finds an ox and takes it home shall attain goodness. Whoever sees himself holding a cow by its halter and leading it shall marry a good-natured woman. Whoever sees himself riding a cow shall lose his wife, and an inheritance shall remain to him from her.

According to one report: to see an ox or cow in a dream signifies that the dreamer shall take a female servant and benefit from her. According to another report, it signifies that a large sum of money shall come into his possession.

Whoever sees in a dream that he gives cattle as a gift to a great man shall petition a dignitary of the state concerning a matter. If his gift is accepted, his petition shall be fulfilled. Whoever sees ox meat, fat, or milk brought to him shall have his rank elevated, and if he is ill, he shall recover.

It can be read as a sign of easing, receiving support, gaining morale, or a fruitful development.

Underestimating opportunities, succumbing to comfort, or being late may reduce the positive effect.
