Performing the Prayer
There are very many interpretations related to prayer. Almost everyone sees himself performing the prayer in a dream. We shall record the interpretations concerning prayer in all their details. The prayers seen in dreams are interpreted separately as the obligatory prayer, the Friday prayer, the supererogatory prayer, and the festival prayers.
Performing the obligatory prayer in a dream signifies high office, leadership, fulfilling a trust, carrying out the things Allah has made obligatory, and attaining security from fear and anxiety.
Whoever sees himself in a dream performing the obligatory prayer while in a state of ablution, observing its normal conditions, fully performing the bowings and prostrations, and turning toward the qiblah, fulfills one of Allah’s obligations. He repays property he has wrongfully taken from someone or a debt he owes to another. At the same time, he refrains from improper and ugly deeds.
Some interpreters have said that whoever sees himself performing the obligatory prayer keeps his word. If there is someone with whom he is estranged, he reconciles with him. If a person who is an imam sees himself performing the obligatory prayer in a dream, he incurs a debt or pays compensation.
Whoever sees himself performing the noon prayer and completing it in a dream attains his purpose. He is assisted in his worldly and religious affairs. For completing the prayer in a dream is considered a sign of the realization of the thing he desires. If the person who sees this dream is imprisoned because of his debt, his oppressor pays his debt. He is then freed from imprisonment.
Whoever sees himself performing the noon prayer in clear, cloudless weather in a dream, and also feels joyful, shall be assisted in the affairs he undertakes. But whoever sees himself performing the noon prayer in cloudy weather shall carry out a sorrowful matter. (Whoever sees himself performing the afternoon prayer in a dream swears an oath for himself or for another; the affairs of a person whom he desires come about with difficulty. The affairs of the person who performs the afternoon prayer in a dream but cannot complete it become exceedingly difficult.
Performing the evening prayer in a dream is interpreted as the completion of affairs that ought to be completed. A person who performs and completes the night prayer is considered to have brought his deeds to an end and to have approached his appointed time.
Whoever sees himself performing the night prayer in a dream shows care concerning the sustenance of his household. Whoever sees himself performing the night prayer at its first time shall undertake a fine deed that will make his children and family content. (Whoever sees himself performing the dawn prayer in a dream, it signifies preparing the necessities required by him, such as food, drink, and clothing. The evening prayer signifies being rid of one’s affairs and rest for the weary. The witr prayer signifies concealing affairs. Sometimes the noon prayer signifies repentance or dismissal from employment, because during the noon prayer the qiblah was turned from Jerusalem. Sometimes the noon prayer signifies fighting Satan and the enemy. The noon prayer is the time of intense heat and sleep. (Performing the afternoon prayer in a dream signifies attaining assistance and success; sometimes it signifies guidance, goodness, and protection. The evening prayer signifies separation from the dreamer’s parents, or from a person who protects him because of his renown, rank, and virtue, or leaving the employment of a person indicated by the sun.
If someone sees himself performing the night prayer in a dream, it signifies preparing for a journey, marriage, or moving from one place to another. Sometimes the night prayer signifies the veil over the eye and weak eyesight. If someone sees himself performing the dawn prayer in a dream, it signifies an oath he shall take.
Whoever sees himself performing the afternoon prayer in a dream attains ease after difficulty. Whoever performs the evening prayer in a dream desires that something which has ended should occur again, and he attains it shortly.
Whoever sees himself performing the Friday prayer in a dream has his wish fulfilled and attains the thing he desires. Whoever sees himself performing the prayer in a vineyard or garden seeks Allah Most High’s forgiveness. Whoever sees himself performing the prayer in a cultivated place pays his debt.
Seeing oneself performing the prayer while excused by illness or incapacity in a dream signifies that one’s deeds are not accepted. Whoever sees himself performing the prayer lying on his side shall fall ill. Whoever sees himself leaving the mosque after completing the prayer shall attain virtue and goodness.
Whoever sees himself performing the prayer upon an animal in a dream shall be stricken by a great fear. Seeing the people praying together with the imam upon an animal, some asleep, some prostrating, and others standing, signifies that, if those people are fighting, they shall be aided and victorious.
Whoever performs a four-unit obligatory prayer as two units in a dream shall undertake a journey. Whoever sees himself eating honey while performing the prayer in a dream shall have sexual intercourse with his wife while fasting.
A woman who performs a four-unit obligatory prayer as two units in a dream shall menstruate that day. Whoever sees in a dream that the time of a prayer is passing and that he cannot find a place in which to perform it shall find the desire he seeks in religion or in the world made difficult. Whoever abandons the prayer deliberately in a dream, denying its obligatory nature, treats Islam lightly. The same interpretation applies to whoever abandons it while acknowledging that the prayer is obligatory.
The Friday prayer performed in a dream signifies relief and joy, seeing festivals and seasons, going on pilgrimage, and reducing one’s debt. Performing the prayer of the Feast of the Breaking of the Fast in a dream signifies repaying a debt, the recovery of the sick, and deliverance from distress. Performing the prayer of the Feast of Sacrifice signifies being engaged in charitable works, fulfilling a will that has been made, and carrying out vows. Sometimes the prayers of the Feast of the Breaking of the Fast and the Feast of Sacrifice signify encountering the enemy.
Performing the forenoon prayer in a dream signifies associating partners with Allah and fulfilling an oath that has been sworn. Sometimes the forenoon prayer signifies joy, or grief, and the taking of an oath. Whoever sees himself performing the prayer while seated shall be hesitant in his speech and in his work. Performing two prayers at one time signifies a journey. Sometimes this dream signifies a sedition arising from the enemy. If he performs the prayer while his private parts are uncovered, it signifies committing fornication while fasting or giving something unlawful as alms. Alternatively, it signifies claiming to be upon the right path while following an innovation.
Seeing oneself performing the prayer of fear in a dream signifies forming a partnership, being struck with astonishment, becoming scattered, or disputing with a sick person. Speaking during the prayer in a dream signifies retracting from something one has given as a gift, or from something one has kept silent about or affirmed. Whoever sees himself reciting aloud in a place where recitation should be audible in a dream, if he is a judge, shall judge unjustly; and if he is not a judge, he shall deny a truth or property of which he has knowledge.
Whoever sees himself bowing or prostrating before the imam in a dream shall oppose his parents or someone whom he is obliged to obey. Performing the tarawih prayer in a dream signifies falling into hardship, repaying a debt, and attaining guidance. Performing the prayer for rain signifies fear, reducing the sustenance of one’s children and household, high prices, stagnation in livelihood, and falling into hardship concerning agriculture, property, and land. Seeing oneself performing the eclipse prayer performed at the time of a solar or lunar eclipse signifies striving to bring relief to the person indicated by the sun or the moon. Sometimes this dream signifies the repentance of a wicked person and the conversion of an unbeliever to Islam. Seeing oneself performing the solar and lunar eclipse prayers signifies the death of a scholar.
Performing the prayer of fear in a dream signifies intimacy, agreement, the coming together of words, and security from fear. Performing the funeral prayer in a dream signifies interceding for the person over whom the prayer is performed.
Whoever sees himself performing the prayer over a dead person in a dream frequently supplicates and seeks forgiveness for him. If he performs the prayer completely, he also makes the supplication completely. Whoever leads the funeral prayer shall be appointed governor over a hypocritical commander. Whoever says, “May Allah, the Exalted, have mercy upon so-and-so,” shall have his sins forgiven.
Whoever sees himself performing the funeral prayer behind the imam in a dream shall attend an assembly in which prayers are offered for the dead. Whoever sees himself performing the funeral prayer shall intercede concerning a person whose religion is corrupt. Whoever sees himself performing a supererogatory prayer in a dream, it signifies the perfection of his religion and his adherence to the Prophetic Sunnah.
If a woman sees herself leading men in prayer in a dream, she shall die. For a woman is not qualified to lead the prayer. This can only occur at the time of her death, when men perform the prayer over her.
If a person who does not know how to perform or recite the prayer sees himself as an imam in a dream, he shall die. Whoever sees himself performing the Sunnah prayer in a dream follows the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cleanses himself of impurity, and becomes good-natured.
Whoever sees himself performing a supererogatory prayer in a dream shall succeed in doing that which he will need in the Hereafter. If someone sees himself performing the tarawih prayer together with a group of people in a dream, and sees that those people do what is required of them in goodness concerning their relatives, it signifies that estrangement will depart from them and their hearts will be comforted. (If someone sees himself performing the prayer in congregation and sees that it is in proper order, it signifies that the congregation is a people who frequently recite glorifications. Whoever sees himself performing a supererogatory prayer for the sake of Allah in a dream, if he is poor, shall become wealthy and attain goodness.
Whoever sees himself performing the tahajjud prayer in a dream shall attain a high rank. Performing the Ragha’ib prayer in a dream signifies seasons and fulfilling one’s promise. Performing a make-up prayer in a dream signifies repaying a debt or the repentance of a sinful person. Sometimes performing a make-up prayer signifies an unbeliever’s conversion to Islam, fulfilling a vow, and carrying out something one has undertaken.
Performing the prayer while seated in a dream signifies incapacity, cowardice, and contentment with a scanty sustenance. Performing the prayer while seated sometimes signifies being made fearful by the illness of one’s father, teacher, or someone whose knowledge has a claim upon one.
Performing the prayer of repentance in a dream signifies the forgiveness of sins. If all the people were to perform the prayer of repentance, it signifies that rain shall fall. If the dreamer is poor, he shall become wealthy; and if he has no child, he shall have a male child. Performing the prayer of glorification in a dream signifies a gift, a gratuity, goodness, and living in a good manner.
Performing the prayer of seeking guidance in a dream signifies that the dreamer shall be perplexed and remain astonished concerning something he desires while awake. Performing the prayer of seeking guidance in a dream signifies that the outcome of the matter which the dreamer has decided to undertake shall be good. If the person performing the prayer of seeking guidance is one of the people of a spiritual order, it signifies a deficiency in his order.
Performing the prayer facing a grave in a dream signifies offering an impermissible thing as a gift; sometimes this dream signifies giving alms to a poor person, one deserving of charity, or someone held in prison. Performing the prayer of greeting the mosque in a dream signifies giving alms to relatives and the poor, and seeking kindness from oppressors.
Whoever sees himself performing the prayer by day or by night in a dream draws near to Allah, the Exalted, by performing righteous deeds. Whoever sees himself being seen during the prayer in a dream neglects the prayer by occupying himself with play.
Whoever sees himself performing the prayer while intoxicated in a dream shall give false testimony. Seeing oneself performing the prayer while in a state of major ritual impurity signifies that the religion of the person who sees it is corrupt. Whoever sees himself performing the prayer toward the East or the West shall turn away from the religion of Islam and undertake an act contrary to the Sacred Law. Whoever sees himself performing the prayer with his back turned toward the qiblah shall disparage the religion of Islam.
Some interpreters have said that if someone sees the congregation performing the prayer in a direction other than the qiblah in a dream, their governor or judge shall be removed from office. Whoever sees a learned person performing the prayer in a direction other than the qiblah, or engaging in an act contrary to the way of the People of the Sunnah, shall follow his carnal desires and undertake an act contrary to the Sacred Law.
Performing the prayer in a direction other than the qiblah in a dream signifies seeking to draw near to Allah and win people’s hearts by doing something impermissible, or it signifies setting out on a journey toward the direction to which one turned in the dream.
Whoever sees himself performing the prayer toward the East in a dream, it signifies that he is upon an evil path, frequently slanders people, and is bold in committing sins.
Whoever sees himself not knowing the qiblah, or searching for the qiblah and not knowing in which direction it lies, it signifies that he is perplexed concerning his religion. Whoever sees himself performing the prayer in a white garment toward a direction other than the qiblah and reciting the Qur’an without error shall go on pilgrimage.
Positive Meaning
It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.
Shadow Meaning
Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
