Performing the Maghrib Prayer

In a dream, performing the Maghrib prayer signifies the beauty in the heart of the person who sees the dream, a good character free of ill intent, and a person who walks upon the right path in life and possesses beautiful deeds. It signifies that a wish greatly desired by the dreamer will come to pass in a blessed manner because of his good intention, and that new beauties will be added to his life. If he has fallen into hardship and distress, materially or spiritually, it is interpreted that he will receive help from a good-intentioned person like himself within his close circle.

According to some interpreters of dreams, what it means to perform the Maghrib prayer in a dream is abundance, prosperity, and sustenance, and it indicates that the indebted dreamer will settle his debt in the shortest time. If the dreamer is employed, it signifies that his earnings will increase, that he will rise in rank in his work, or that he will enter a more auspicious occupation; and if the dreamer is single, it signifies that he will meet someone new in the near future and, leaving his past behind with this new person he has met, will marry and live a new and very beautiful life.

If, while performing the Maghrib prayer in a dream, one is also weeping—that is, if one is praying while crying—it signifies that the dreamer will find, at a moment he never expects, a solution to a trouble existing in his life which he considers hopeless and for which he can ask no one’s help; and if he is afflicted with illness, it indicates that he will find a remedy for his illness in the nearest time.

It is interpreted that whoever laughs while performing the Maghrib prayer in a dream, and therefore cannot bring the prayer to an end, and sees that he cannot complete his prayer for this reason, will suddenly fall into a material impasse in the waking world while everything is proceeding well, without understanding its cause, and will consequently suffer greatly and incur heavy material losses.

Performing the Maghrib prayer incompletely in a dream is a portent that the dreamer has certain wrongs in life, has befriended the wrong people, and, if he is not attentive, will experience evil events and fall into both material and spiritual difficulties.

A person who sees in his dream that he has performed the Maghrib prayer in the company of the congregation is interpreted as one who has attained spiritual peace, performs his worship sincerely, always recites auspicious prayers, and whose sustenance and heart are abundant.

Performing the prayer with the congregation in a dream means receiving support and assistance from several spiritually strong people in religious terms. It indicates that, through these people, the dreamer will be freed from a great material burden and will therefore attain spiritual peace. This dream generally signifies an auspicious assembly, people conducting themselves in ways pleasing to Allah, unity and solidarity, rising within society, attracting attention through one’s conduct, and gaining people’s appreciation.

According to certain scholars of dream interpretation, it is related that the person who sees himself performing the Maghrib prayer with the congregation in a dream will soon enter an assembly such as a wedding or a funeral, will display pleasing conduct in that gathering, and therefore will be spoken of by the assembly with respect and prayers. However, if the congregation in which the prayer is performed is clad in black—that is, if the garments of the congregation are black—this is not interpreted as very auspicious.

The mosque is a sacred place of worship for us Muslims. For this reason, seeing a mosque in a dream is always a means of blessings.

Performing the Maghrib prayer in a mosque in a dream is a portent that the dreamer will attain peace and happiness both in this world and in the Hereafter. If the dreamer performs the Maghrib prayer alone in the mosque in his dream, it indicates that he will support someone around him who has fallen into hardship and is in distress, and that, by receiving auspicious prayers, he will rise both in the eyes of the people around him and in the sight of Allah.

If the dreamer performs the Maghrib prayer in the mosque with the congregation in his dream, it indicates that, together with an auspicious congregation of which he is a part, he will help someone in need of assistance. If the dreamer performs the Maghrib prayer in the courtyard of the mosque, it is a portent that he has repented for a mistake or sin he committed and that his repentance has been accepted in the sight of Allah.

Teaching someone to perform the Maghrib prayer in a dream is related to bringing about a very great spiritual reward for the person who sees the dream. It is related that the dreamer will provide great spiritual support to a close relation who has strayed from the path or is about to fall into an evil path, and that, for this reason, the life of that person will change for the better and in a positive way, as though touched by a magic wand. Some scholars of dream interpretation, on the other hand, liken the dreamer who teaches another to pray in his dream to a light that spreads to other people the reward, goodness, beauty—that is, all the beauties of spirituality—possessed by him.

If it is seen in a dream that someone else has taught a person to pray, and the person teaching the prayer is someone known to you, it indicates that great support will come to you from that person. If it is seen that someone else has taught the prayer in a dream, but the person teaching the prayer was not previously known, it is related that the dreamer will suddenly and unknowingly help another person and, on account of this assistance, will perform a great meritorious deed.

People who see themselves performing the Maghrib prayer in a dream are generally spiritually strong people who offer many prayers and worship sincerely and auspiciously. Those who see this dream are people who have attained spiritual peace and are therefore happy in their lives, possessing strong characters capable of overcoming hardships with ease. Some experts, however, hold that people praying in a dream are in fact those who do not fulfill their religious obligations, and that the dream is an outward manifestation of the unease in their subconscious, caused by this neglect, which disturbs them greatly.

Thus, a person who sees himself praying in a dream may be one devoted to his religion and fulfilling its obligations; or, quite the contrary, he may be a person who does not fulfill his religious obligations but is inwardly troubled by this and whose conscience is not at ease.

Positive Meaning

It can be read as a sign of easing, receiving support, gaining morale, or a fruitful development.
