North Node represents the direction in which the soul needs to grow in this life, while the South Node indicates the habits/comfort zone that are familiar but need to be transcended. They are always in opposite signs and together form six axes. In this article, we intensively cover these six axes with the “past → future” logic.
Aries ↔ Libra Axis
South Node Aries (past): Strong independence, self-centered will, direct self-expression; disappointment and aggressive reaction when restricted. North Node Libra (direction): Learning to share, cooperate, and be sensitive to others’ needs; establishing “win-win” relationships.
Taurus ↔ Scorpio Axis
South Node Taurus (past): Focused on material security, possessiveness, and survival, with an identity leaning on comfort; resistance to change. North Node Scorpio (direction): Letting go of security habits and opening up to deep transformation, shadow work, and rebirth — reaching higher power by risking the loss of comfort.
Gemini ↔ Sagittarius Axis
South Node Gemini (past): Versatile curiosity, quick thinking, gathering broad but scattered knowledge; the attitude of “I have an answer for everything”. North Node Sagittarius (direction): Integrating knowledge and deepening it within a single philosophical/meaningful framework; living not just by collecting information, but according to it.
Cancer ↔ Capricorn Axis
South Node Cancer (past): Overattachment to the search for family, home, and inner security; repetition of unresolved childhood/family patterns. North Node Capricorn (direction): Establishing personal goals, responsibility, and a mature identity; learning to climb one’s own mountain. (In the reverse direction: South Node Capricorn carries dependence on status/authority in the past while North Node Cancer indicates emotional opening and healing the inner child.)
Leo ↔ Aquarius Axis
South Node Leo (past): A focus on feeling “special”, with an identity oriented towards stage/creativity; resentment, selfishness, or dependence on attention if not appreciated. North Node Aquarius (direction): Transforming individual fame into service to the collective, cooperation, and a vision that benefits humanity — expanding the feeling of “I am special” to the recognition that everyone is equally valuable.
Virgo ↔ Pisces Axis
South Node Virgo (past): Intense analysis, self-criticism, getting caught up in details and perfectionism; analysis can sometimes turn into a new self-obsession. North Node Pisces (direction): Transitioning from control to surrender; learning to trust the flow, forgive, and show compassion. (In the reverse direction: South Node Pisces carries tendencies of escapism/melting in the past while North Node Virgo indicates daily discipline, boundaries, and skill development.)
Practically Using Your Node Axis
After discovering which axis you are on in your own chart, it is important to notice how “natural and easy” your South Node sign feels to you, but that it no longer fosters your growth. The direction of the North Node often feels uncomfortable at first, even “alien” — which is precisely why it is the direction of spiritual growth. The house where the node falls shows in which area of life this growth will occur.
