Solar Return Sun: Focus of the Year in 12 Houses

The house where the Sun falls in the Solar Return chart indicates the main focus and mission of the year — the most direct indicator of where your energy and attention will flow. In this article, we discuss the placement of the SR Sun in the 12 houses.

Why is the SR Sun Always in the Same Sign?

Since the Solar Return is based on the exact degree of the Sun at the time of your birth, the SR Sun is always in the same sign and nearly the same degree as your natal Sun — it is fixed. What truly varies is in which house the Sun falls according to the Ascendant of that year. Therefore, the real variability from year to year is experienced in the house of the SR Sun.

Example Interpretation Logic

Let’s say Saturn is in your 5th house in your natal chart, and in this year’s Solar Return, Saturn is falling exactly on your SR Ascendant, while the SR Sun is in the 10th house. This combination indicates that you will face a serious responsibility/maturation test (Saturn) in your career (10th house), and this test is linked to the theme of creativity and self-expression from your natal 5th house.
