Neptune spends about 14 years in a sign and completes the zodiac in ~165 years — it is wholly a generational planet. Its personal influence manifests when Neptune transits your houses and makes aspects to your natal planets.
Core Theme of Transiting Neptune
Neptune is the planet of intuition, imagination, and the dissolution of boundaries. The house it transits indicates the area where you will experience uncertainty instead of clarity, but also inspiration and spiritual depth during those long years. It may become challenging to make concrete decisions during these times — in the area affected by Neptune, “waiting and feeling” usually yields better results than “forcing things”.

Generational Influence and Personal Aspects
Since Neptune’s sign is entirely generational, the primary determinants of personal influence are the aspects it makes to your natal Sun, Moon, or Ascendant. The square aspect Neptune makes to its natal position in early 40s often coincides with a profound spiritual awakening or a “mid-life” questioning period.
